A Little About Me

This probably should have been my very first post, since this is a new blog, but I got so excited about sharing information to help others that I forgot that people would probably want to know who I am. So here is a little bit about me.

My name is Boots (thus my business name – uses my name as an acronym). I am a mother of 4 children, 3 girls and one boy (of course the boy is the baby, and boy did he hate that). I worked in the education system for a little over 20 years (I have my early childhood degree, my elementary and secondary license with an emphasis in language arts). I just loved watching the student’s faces as they finally grasped a concept and watching them grow and change. My last 10 years were in the special education classroom as an aide and though it was challenging it was oh so rewarding. I also worked for several years with special needs adults and that was very rewarding.

During the COVID-19 pandemic I ended up in the hospital with multiple blood clots in both my heart and my lungs. There was one huge one across each of those (so 2 big ones) and several smaller ones as well. I was in the hospital for a little over 2 weeks in the ICU then they moved me to what they called the intermediate ICU and I was there almost a week before I got to go home. I was so weak when they finally got PT and OT started for me in the hospital that I could barely walk across my hospital room with the walker. They knew I only had a week before being released so they really wanted me to be able to move. I helped them to push me on my walking and within the week I was walking up and down the halls with my walker – very slowly mind you, and sweating too. I wanted to sit and give up but I wouldn’t let myself do it, I was going to walk if it killed me. Amazing how fast our body breaks down when we aren’t moving it for just a short period of time.

When I got home, they wanted me to start PT right away but unfortunately, they didn’t have enough people to come to my home and no where to fit me into their schedule for at least 3 months (luckily, they found a spot for me in 2 months). When I started, I couldn’t walk too far with my walker without getting very tired, but in less than a month I was no longer using my walking and I was using a cane (because I did my exercise faithfully at home and not just during my session). We kept working and with just a couple more weeks I no longer needed my cane. I do still struggle with balance, but at least I can walk around without getting so worn out. I mean, in the beginning it would literally take me 2 days to vacuum my house because I would get worn out and weak so quickly. I had the mindset that these blood clots and the after effects were not going to stop me from living my life on my terms, and I did it!

Unfortunately, I was put on some heart meds and told that I couldn’t drive. Well, that sure put a damper on going back to work. So I decided to look for something that I could do at home, and COVID sure opened a lot of doors in that area. Unfortunately, along came a lot more scam options and it was tough sifting through all of that. In my research I came across life coaching, which I had no idea even existed until that moment, and researched just what it was. I loved it! This was where God was leading me, my next phase of life. I was super excited.

Now, to find a place to get certified so that I could know what I am doing. I searched for months and kept coming back to one particular school so I knew that was where I was to get my training. But the cost was more than I could afford. Yes, they’d take payments, but I HATE payments and refused to do it that way. I was just going to save my money until I had enough to take the class, the extra checks we got during COVID were helpful. When I had finally saved up enough money to attend I was checking my email and I found one from the school offering me a deal for quite a bit off of the cost. This wasn’t coincidence it was God letting me know that this was indeed the right path for me. I immediately called the number on the email and paid for my course and was able to get started 10 minutes later. I was super excited to start this next adventure in my life. I enjoyed the class (I’m certified now!), and have enjoyed planning what I want to do with my coaching business to best help others. This is why I started this blog.
